Approximate drive times from central Mt. Lebanon in normal traffic. Actual travel time varies by address, traffic, construction, weather and departure time.

Follow Banksville Road north to Parkway West, then continue through the Fort Pitt Tunnel and across the Fort Pitt Bridge into downtown. This is a useful option for homes with convenient access to the Banksville Road corridor.

Travel north on Washington Road through Dormont, continuing onto West Liberty Avenue toward the Liberty Tunnels and Liberty Bridge. This is a straightforward option from Uptown Mt. Lebanon and nearby neighborhoods.

Follow Cochran Road toward Greentree Road, then connect with Parkway West heading east toward the Fort Pitt Tunnel. This provides another approach to downtown from the western side of Mt. Lebanon.

Mt. Lebanon’s Red Line provides a public transportation option for reaching downtown. Consider the trip to the station, train schedules and the walk to your destination when comparing it with driving. Check current service alerts before traveling.

Park-and-ride access

Mt. Lebanon residents can access Pittsburgh Regional Transit’s light-rail system at the Mt. Lebanon Station next to the parking garage on Route 19. From there, the T travels through the South Hills and into Downtown Pittsburgh.

It can be a practical alternative for commuting, sporting events, concerts or days when you would rather avoid Downtown traffic and parking.

In Pittsburgh, the best route often depends on where you begin, when you leave and what is happening at the tunnels.

Your Address Changes the Route

Homes in different parts of Mt. Lebanon may favor Washington Road, Cochran Road or the Parkway. The fastest option is not identical throughout the township.

The Tunnels Set the Driving Time

The Liberty and Fort Pitt tunnels are important gateways into Pittsburgh. Rush hour, construction or an incident near either tunnel can change the drive considerably.

Flexibility Is the Advantage

Multiple driving corridors—and nearby access to the T—give residents flexibility. Pittsburgh is not a large city, and what locals call “traffic” may feel modest to someone relocating from a larger metropolitan area. Even so, tunnels, construction and the time of day can influence the best route.
